On February 21, as part of the International Mother Language Day celebrations, the library hosted an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.

The excerpts from the Constitution (Fundamental Law) of 27 countries in Belarusian, English, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, Finnish, Japanese, and other languages were read out. The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, and members of the National Commission for UNESCO.

Director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, noted that homeland, family and tradition are not simply words, but the basis of the existence of sovereign nations, who, in their native languages, represent themselves with dignity in the world’s arena.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO Vladimir Makei stressed that our language is an important feature of ethnic consciousness of Belarusians, a weighty foundation of statehood, and then read the Preamble to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.

At the events’ end, guests and participants visited an exhibition of the constitutions of various countries and The Republic Manifestoexposition at the Book Museum, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the BSSR.

The organizers are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus.
