On February 11th within the framework of the Library Day which was traditionally held at the ХVII Minsk international book fair, a round table "The electronic book – the book of present and future” took place.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus and National Library of Belarus. Heads of libraries and publishing houses, representatives of the National Book Chamber of the Republic of Belarus, experts of the National Center of Intellectual Property and representatives of bookseller companies participated in the round table.

There was the fifth meeting of librarians, publishers and booksellers held within the framework of the annual book fair.

During the meeting at the round table participants discussed the issues of production and distribution of electronic books, libraries’ acquisition of electronic documents, state registration of electronic editions, and observance of the copyright when producing electronic editions. Participants of the event unanimously agreed that libraries, publishing houses and bookseller organizations had a number of problems to be solved in the field of production, distribution and use of electronic editions.

On the Library Day booksellers pay a particular attention to promotion of partnership with libraries as their old and most concerned partners.

The Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus awarded to National Library of Belarus the Diploma for a long-term fruitful cooperation and promotion of the Belarusian book.

Within the framework of the round table the award ceremony took place during which winners of the creative program “Books autographed by Belarusian writers for Belarusian libraries” received prizes. Directors of the central library networks of Pinsk district (Brest region), Novopolotsk town (Vitebsk region), Buda-Koshelevo district (Gomel region), Volkovysk district (Grodno region), and Krichev district (Mogilev region) were awarded. Besides, each winner will receive a unique prize – the collection of 100 books autographed by Belarusian writers.

From year to year the round table’s activities become more and more efficient and reveal the real results of mutually beneficial cooperation. In fact, all links of the chain "publisher – bookseller – library" work together to meet information needs of a reader, and this is their common purpose.
