On October 18, the grand opening of the 5th International Congress "The Library as a Phenomenon of Culture" took place in the library.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus. The partners are the National Center for Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus, the Embassy of the United States of America in the Republic of Belarus, the Polish Institute in Minsk. The main theme of the congress in this year is “Comfortable environment of libraries: new technological, material and technical solutions”.

The Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky opened the congress. The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Yury Bondar and the Deputy Director of the National Center for Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Sharshun addressed the participants with welcoming words and with the wish of fruitful work. A solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the 26th Republican contest "Bibliateka – Asyrodak Natsionalnay Kultury" and the Republican contest for the best public center for legal information.

In the framework of the congress, the joint exhibition events held at the National Library in 2018 were summed up.

As part of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing, an exhibition of art holograms "Education. Cognition. Progress". Roman Motulsky welcomed the organizer of this project, Leonid Tanin, and handed him diploma expressing gratitude to the fruitful cooperation and significant contribution to the joint project. Leonid Tanin, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Holography Industry, donated the holographic reproduction of the Francis Skaryna’s book broadside to the National Library.

The international exhibition project “Belarus and the Bible”, organized by the National Library and the Manuscript Research Group (USA), had a great resonance in society. The most valuable book rarities reaching 5 thousand years were shown for the first time in the library within the framework of single exhibition in Belarus. Roman Motulsky handed certificates of appreciation for the fruitful cooperation and significant contribution to the implementation of joint projects to the director of the Manuscript Study Group, Scott Carroll, as well as to Executive Director Denise Carroll, Administrative Director David Eddington, Researchers John and Angel Slyfe, logistics coordinator Pavel Dyadchenko, logistics support officer Marjorie Eddington. The head of the Manuscripts Research Group, Scott Carroll, accepted as a gift a facsimile edition of Francysk Skaryna’s Book Heritage from the library with great appreciation.

At the plenary session, the participants raised issues of the development of the material and technical base of libraries, as well as new technical ideas for creating comfortable conditions in libraries, discussed the themes of designing, building and operating library buildings in Belarus and abroad.

The participants of the congress has the possibility to see the exhibition “Libraries of the future: technologies, buildings, equipment”, which represents the latest achievements in the field of informatization and technical equipment of libraries, a wide range of products and services of companies engaged in industrial production and sale of shelving, lighting and other equipment, design and maintenance of security and fire protection systems.

Within the framework of the congress the presentations, master classes and round tables will take place on October 18–19 in the library.

On October 19, anyone can attend a public lecture by Charles Forrest, a professional librarian, head of 21st Century Libraries Consulting (USA).

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
