On October 8, 2007, in the framework of the Quality Schools International «Quality Management in Libraries” in National Library of Belarus took place a Republican seminar “Informatization of libraries: new stage of the development”. Directors of district libraries, specialists of cultural management in libraries, as well as a delegation of specialists of Russian and Ukrainian libraries participated in the seminar.
Valery Gedroyts read a report “State policy in the field of the informatization of libraries” dedicated to the urgent issues of the development of library information resources, implementation of automated information library systems, and informatization and technological equipment of libraries. Valery Gedroyts noted that informatiozation of libraries is the priority line of Belarusian state library policy according to the State Programme of Informatization of the republic of Belarus in 2003-2005, and programmes “Electronic Belarus” and “Informatization of Culture in 2005 – 2010”.
A particular attention was given to corporate cooperation of Belarusian libraries. Alla Sheremetyeva, the Head of National Library of Belarus Information Centre read a report “The role of the Information Centre in corporate cooperation of libraries” dedicated to this issue.
M.V. Losik, the specialist of the NP RUP “Agate-System” read a report “Development of the system of corporate cataloguing and union electronic catalogue of Belarusian libraries”.
N.I. Vadneva, the General Manager of the NPF “INEAK” read a report "Development of district libraries computer corporate network: results of the work" dedicated to the development of district libraries corporate computer network, and implementation of automated of library systems.
A.M. Vasilyenko, the Director of V.I. Lenin Mogilev District Library, T.P. Danelyuk, the Director of A.M. Gorky Brest District Library, and V.P. Dubrova, the Director of V.I. Lenin Gomel District Library read reports on computerization and automation of district libraries.
Besides that, during the seminar were discussed the issues of the development of agricultural settlements libraries, improvement of the level of librarian skills, and library acquisitions.
During the seminar was presented an exhibition of the NLB’s publications.
