On 30 October, the National Library of Belarus hosted the presentation of Viktor Korbut’s book Minsk. The Best View of the City published by the the Belarusian publishing house Zvjazda.

The book Minsk. The Best View of the City by Viktor Korbut includes the author’s scientific papers on the history of Minsk from the 11th to the early 21st centuries many of which appeared in the newspaper Sovetskaya Belorussia in 2002–2013. The author looks for a key to the mystery of the city’s origin, raises a question of reconstruction of the historical center of Minsk and analyzes historical facts in an attempt to ascertain which buildings are the oldest in Minsk and which legends about them exist. The author considers temples, monasteries, cemeteries and public places with their past and present as not simply architectural objects, but also through the destiny of people whose lives are connected to these buildings.

At the presentation ceremony Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus Alexander Susha said the publication of such a book was a significant event. Unfortunately there was a lack of research of the city of Minsk till recently, and in-depth study of the city’s history started only 10–15 years ago.

Nemiga Street is Victor Korbut’s favorite place in Minsk. “Here you can feel that the city has its own history. My task is to bring to people the knowledge of it so that everyone would have an opportunity to discover a Minsk which has been unknown before”, – the author said.

At the presentation Victor Korbut acquainted guests with people he wrote about and told about a significant role of each of them. Also the audience enjoyed vocal performances of artists of music studio Grani.

Victor Korbut is a reviewer of Sovetskaya Belorussia, author of more than two thousand publications about the past of our country which appeared in Belarusian, Lithuanian and Russian periodicals, winner of the republican tourist Learn Belarus, the National contest of printed mass media Golden Letter and the Republican contest of the Belarusian Union of Journalists Golden Pen.
