On June 1st in the Educational Hall of the National Library of Belarus takes place the presentation of the monograph by Andrei Kotlyarchuk “In the shadow of Poland and Russia. The Great Duchy of Lithuania and Sweden during the European crisis in the XVII century”.


This joint project has been prepared by the Embassy of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus as part of the Days of Sweden in Belarus (May 13th – June 12th).

Doctor of history, journalist, author of monographs and articles in the Belarusian, English, Russian and Swedish languages Andrei Kotlyarchuk has been studying for a long time the European past of the Great Duchy of Lithuania and historical relations between the Swedish and the Belarusian peoples.

The monograph “In the shadow of Poland and Russia. The Great Duchy of Lithuania and Sweden during the European crisis in the XVII century” is the first Belarusian edition of Andrei Kotlyarchuk’s doctoral thesis published in the Belarusian language. The monograph reveals the endeavor of the Great Duchy of Lithuania to enter into a political alliance with Sweden. The illustrated book has been issued with the support of the World Association of the Belarusians Backauscyna and the Embassy of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus Stephan Eriksson, administration of the National Library of Belarus, scientists, historians and author Andrei Kotlyarchuk will took part in the presentation.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
