A presentation and donating ceremony of the facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the National Library of India was held in Kolkata (Calcutta), on January 21.
During the solemn event, in the presence of the diplomatic corps, public circles and mass media of India, the honorary consul of Belarus in Kolkata, Sitaram Sharma, on behalf of the Belarusian side handed over the facsimile edition of The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the head of the Library Department of the Ministry of Culture of India, Director General of the National Library of India, Shravan Kumar.
Both sides expressed confidence that the event would mark the beginning of fruitful bilateral cooperation between the libraries of Belarus and India.
The release of the 21-volume facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna is a truly great event not only for Belarus, but for the entire world community.
The international scientific and publishing project, implemented by the National Library of Belarus and Bank BelVEB, lasted five years and was successfully completed in 2017, the year which marked the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing. Today, the multi-volume edition continues to replenish the collections of the world’s largest libraries acquainting people from different countries with the rich history and unique culture of Belarus.
