The XVI International scientific conference “Library science – 2011: library and information activity under the conditions of modernization of society” took place in Moscow on 27–28 April.
The conference was held at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
Representatives of library and information institutions of Belarus, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russia participated in the conference.
The general theoretic and historical problems of library science and allied sciences, the questions of information and library management, the issues of reading in the information society and higher library and information education under the conditions of modernization of society were considered during plenary and sectional sessions.
Director of the National Library of Belarus R.S. Motulsky delivered the report “The biggest book collections in Belarus: historical fates and modern opportunities”.
Within the framework of the conference, the Director of the National Library of Belarus carried on negotiations with representatives of publishing and book-selling organizations and information centers and libraries concerning the ways of accessing Russian information resources and participation in joint research and other projects.
