On October 30, the director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, visited the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and met with the bank’s President, Sir Suma Chakrabarti. The event was part of the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the world’s first “Primer”.

The Director of the National Library of Belarus presented and donated a facsimile of the first Belarusian “Primer”, published with financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to Roman Motulsky, such joint projects effectively promote international cooperation in the field of culture, as well as the development of friendship and mutual understanding between nations.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the further cooperation between the National Library of Belarus and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, considered the implementation of projects for the conservation, enhancement and promotion of book heritage, and exchanged views on promising areas of cooperation.

The facsimile reproduction of the world’s first “Primer” was also made by the Library of the Honorable Society Middle Temple in London, the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the International Association of Belarusians, Belarusian State University, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Development and Reconstruction Bank "Belinvestbank".

The visit was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
