On 13 August, the opening of a cultural educational project “Martin Luther: 530 years from the date of birth” was held at the Mobile Gallery (3rd floor).
The National Library of Belarus and the German public association “Mosty” organized the exhibition.
The exposition devoted to the 530th anniversary from the birth of Martin Luther, the Christian theologian, the great reformer of Germany and the translator of the Bible into the German language, tells about his life and work.
In the history of German public opinion Martin Luther is considered to be a cultural figure – a reformer in education, language and music. The exhibition contains both books and pictures. There are pictures of Martin Luther and his wife, paintings and engravings depicting the German reformer, photos of the places where he was born and worked at different times. For visitor it might be interesting to see pictures of the title pages of publications written by Martin Luther as well as excerpts from letters and the content of his legendary 95 theses against indulgences which the theologian nailed on the gates of the church in Wittenberg.
At the grand opening a welcoming address was said by Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus Elena Dolgopolova, Deputy Head of the mission of the Embassy of Germany to Belarus Holger Rapiar, Deputy Commissioner for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Lameka, director of the National Center of National Cultures Mikhail Rybakov, chairman of the German public association "Mosty" Olga Stockman, the bishop of the Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists in Belarus Alexander Firisyuk. The guests of honor in their speeches said about the significance of Martin Luther in the history of Europe and also emphasized the contribution of Protestant sects in the development of Belarusian culture.
The exhibition “Martin Luther: 530 years from the date of the birth” will last till 29 September, 2013.
