On 19 March, a grand opening of a cultural-educational project "Be a master!" timed to the Year of Thrift was held in the National Library of Belarus.
The project "Be a master!" includes a book exhibition and the exhibition of Belarusian propaganda posters dated the 70s–80s years of the 20th century. The exhibition represents 46 posters from the authors'collections in the National Library of Belarus. The authors of these works are such well-known masters as A. Churkin, N. Gurlo, S. Volkov, V. Zhuk, S. Yerokhin, T. Gordashnikova, and etc.
During the opening a welcoming speech was said by Head of Gallery and Exhibition Division of the National Library of Belarus Fyodor Yastreb, Head of Book Exhibition Section Irina Vasilkovich, founder of the first Belarusian gallery “Brama”, art critic Larisa Finkelshtein.
One of the project goals is to show that posters have not only a propaganda and ideological significance. The poster is a historical and artistic document of "its time" – the time when it was made and demonstrated at street stands and public interiors. It keeps its relevance as a participant of events. Therefore, every display of posters gets public resonance recalling the past and shows people’s attitude to the past in the present days.
