A Mysterious Light

The Gallery “Rakurs” (second floor) opened a photo exhibition of Vasyl Belyakou “A Mysterious Light”.

It is extremely important to express the respect to the historical and cultural heritage and think over its unchanging value in the Year of Historical Memory. Exactly this goal unite Vasyl Belyakou’s photographs presented in the exhibition.

Vasyl Belyakou is a photographer from Postavy, a member of the Belarus Photographer’s Union, a traveler and a researcher-volunteer of the natural and architectural sightseeing of Belarus. He is participating in exhibitions since 2009. Traveling around the motherland country, he is striving to find, notice and take a picture of the most interesting, unique, unrepeated: places, which do not have touristic routes; unimaginable moments, which are not easy to catch; buildings, which must be seen and kept. 40,000 kilometers walked during his foot and bicycle routes over Belarus for 2013-2022. The number of the photo materials shot is uncountable.

The Exposition captures more than 45 samples of the temple architecture, monuments of Belarussian culture and spiritual life of each field of the country: cathedrals, catholic churches, orthodox churches, chapels, and abbeys. Picturesque landscapes, unrepeated images of the depth of the forest and outskirts, hills and dried rivers, spiritual secretes of countrysides, symbolic signs of the Belarussian Christianity, wildly known sightseeing, as well as little-known buildings for a modern tourist will not remain one indifferent and will be kept in memory of the gallery visitors for a long time.

Among the photographs of the famous symbols of the Belarussian Christian faith – Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk, Saint Sofia Cathedral in Polotsk, Three Holy Hierarchs in Mogilev. Not so famous, but no less charming are the church of Holy Kozma and Demyan in the village of Vishnevo (Volozhin district), Holy Peter and Paul’s Church in the village Zhukovka (Minsk region), the Kazan icon of the Mother of God in the village of Barkolabovo (Byhov district) and other. Among the photographs are also photographs of Protestant, Lutheran and Old Believer churches.

The Exhibition is dedicated to July 3rd – the Independence Day of Belarus. One should remember a cultural wealth of the country, the unique national dignity of the Belarusian architecture, a number of historical events suffered by each holy place – each church, Catholic church and abbey. With Images and the firstly seen landscapes being shy and charming, filled with spiritual strength and the beauty of the faith, experience and knowledge, give a unique opportunity to visit most interesting spiritual treasuries of all Belarus at once. “A Mysterious Light” of each chapel, temple, abbey, is shining at each photograph, enable to think over and answer the question “What will be left after us to our ancestors?”
