On 27 February, there was held an opening ceremony of a photo exhibition "5 years – 5 visits" as part of the international campaign "Following Chavez" in honor of the first anniversary from the date of the death of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.


The event was organized by the National Library of Belarus jointly with the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of Belarus.

The exhibition presents photographs of official visits of President Hugo Chavez to Belarus. The organizers aimed to honor the memory of Hugo Chavez and recall about his visit to Belarus during which he had acquainted with Belarusian enterprises and visited institutions of science and culture.

Director of the Library Roman Motulsky opened a solemn ceremony. He also noted that the Library and the Embassy of Venezuela had been fruitfully cooperating for a long time. The National Library of Belarus is a platform where a number of joint activities are carried out: book and art exhibitions, ceremonies on donation of books and others.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Belarus Americo Diaz Nunez thanked Roman Motulsky for hosting this event in the walls of the Library and stressed that the presented photographs not only described certain events, but also reflected the spirit of the time.

As part of the opening of the photo exhibition there were announced results of the children’s drawing competition on the theme "Chavez in Belarus" in which pupils of the 4 and 7th grades from Belarusian schools with advanced study of the Spanish language. 22 best works were defined. In a solemn ceremony, Ambassador presented certificates and gifts to the winners.

A real gift to those present became an extraordinary dance "Venezuela" performed by a dance group "Yolanda Moreno" from the Cultural Center named after Simon Bolivar at the Embassy.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
