The poetry collection “Heritage”, 1922

Купала, Янка. Спадчына / Янка Купала. – Менск [Мінск] : Беларускае кааперацыйна-выдавецкае таварыства "Адраджэнне", 1922. – 221 с.

The manuscript was prepared by the author in 1919. It includes verses and poems written in 1913–1919, and also works of 1905–1907 which had not been printed before being prohibited by censors. Works included in the collection are the reflection about the historical ways of Belarus, filled with the philosophical depth peculiar to the poet. As regards the idea and stylistics, all works are connected by a general concept – the idea of the destiny of the Belarusian nation and the person on the crucial point of history.

Thematically the collection “Heritage” is composed of the poems devoted to the World War I; to the theme of the life of Belarusian villages; philosophical sonnets where the artist originally designates the immemorial questions of human life – good and evil, life and death, treachery and revenge; poems of civil publicistic lyrics in which the problem of historical destiny of the country is solved; lyrical intimate works where the themes of love and morally-ethical mission of the person are closely bound; works inspired by folklore in which the problem “the person and freedom” is developed.
