The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency in the United Nations system that promotes peace, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and information.
UNESCO's main activities are represented in five program sectors: education, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, culture, communication and information.
The Republic of Belarus became a member of UNESCO on May 12, 1954. As stipulated by the Charter of the organization, the National Commission for UNESCO operates in Belarus, designed to implement UNESCO projects within the country, involve government agencies and non-governmental organizations in participating in the organization's programs, and establish contacts with foreign partners.
The anniversary of Belarus' accession to UNESCO is a landmark event and a good reason to demonstrate the fruits of our country's cooperation with this organization.
The exhibition presents more than 100 documents from the NBB funds in Russian, Belarusian, and English: books, periodicals, mimeographed UNESCO materials, brochures, booklets.
The materials presented at the exhibition introduce the history of the creation of UNESCO, its structure and main activities, as well as global and national programs and projects that UNESCO implements in the Republic of Belarus.
Most of the exposition consists of UNESCO documents – reports on the activities of the organization, reports of the Secretary-General, conventions and recommendations, etc.
Among the documents presented at the exhibition are collections of international legal documents, monographs, materials of seminars and scientific and practical conferences, photo albums, teaching aids, etc.
