The thematic exhibition "Sow what is reasonable, kind and eternal!" dedicated to the World Teacher's Day is open from October 4 to November 6 in the documents of International organizations reading room (room 207g).

This Day was established by UNESCO in 1994 and is celebrated annually on October 5 in more than 100 countries around the world. In some countries, it is celebrated on days close to this date, usually on the first Sunday of October.

The exhibition, offered to the attention of users, has about 70 documents in English, Russian and Belarusian – these are books, periodicals, booklets. Most of them are documents of international organizations (UN, UNESCO, ILO). The materials reveal the essence of the teacher's profession, consider the role of the teacher in the development of man and society.

Among the exhibited documents are monographs and textbooks on the history of pedagogy, the works of famous foreign and domestic teachers, collections of materials of scientific and practical conferences, reference and information publications, etc.

The exhibition consists of the following thematic sections:

  • The teacher and his role in upbringing and education
  • Pedagogical education: national and international experience
  • Professional development of teachers
  • The history of pedagogy, the activities of the great teachers of the world
  • State policy of the Republic of Belarus in the field of education and training of teaching staff

The exhibition is addressed to scientists and specialists in the field of education, teachers of universities, secondary specialized educational institutions and secondary schools, graduate students, as well as anyone interested in modern problems of education development.

Teacher's Day is not only an occasion to congratulate teachers and celebrate their contribution to education, but also to think about how to provide them with the support necessary for the full disclosure of their talent and vocation, as well as to rethink further ways of developing the profession on a global scale.

The historical background for the establishment of this holiday was the Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers held in Paris on October 5, 1966. As a result, representatives of UNESCO and the International Labour Organization signed the "Recommendation, UNESCO/ILO on the situation of teachers".

The recommendation enshrined the rights and obligations of teachers and international standards concerning their training, advanced training, employment, working conditions and learning process. In 1997, a "Recommendation on the Status of Teaching Staff in Higher Education Institutions" was adopted, complementing the 1966 recommendation by including teaching and research staff in higher education system.

In our country, the Teacher's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of October. This holiday is designated in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No.157 of March 26, 1998 "On public holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus".

This is the most beautiful and kind professional holiday, when teachers receive congratulations from present pupils and former ones, as well as from their parents. Various festive events are held in schools all over the country on this day. Teachers are congratulated with sweets, flowers and gifts.
