The Documents of International Organizations Reading Room (No 207g) is launching a thematic exhibition "Belarus and UNICEF – Partnership for Children", honoring the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Belarus joining UNICEF, from 18 January to 18 February.

About 70 papers in Russian and English, including books, brochures, mimeographed UN publications, journals, and booklets, are shown in the exhibition. Documents reflect the activities that the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has done to safeguard the children’s health, lives, their growth and intellectual development.

The exhibit's materials provide an overview of UNICEF's history, organisational structure, and primary functions as well as the international and domestic programmes and initiatives that UNICEF carries out in Belarus.

The documents from the organisation, including activity reports, UNICEF Executive Board reports, national reports on the state of children in the Republic of Belarus, assessments and evaluations of the status of children worldwide, etc., make up the majority of the exhibit.

Monographs, practical guides, materials from scientific and practical conferences, collections of international legal documents, and national legislative acts on the protection of children's rights are among the exhibits displayed.

The exhibition consists of the following sections:

  • National and international legal instruments for the protection of the rights of the child
  • UNICEF: History and modernity
  • UNICEF activities in Belarus

Teachers, attorneys, sociologists, healthcare workers, cultural workers, and everyone else who cares about the future of our children are invited to attend the exhibition.

In order to assist children impacted by World War II, the UN General Assembly created the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 1946. The organisation has functioned as a specialised agency dedicated to defending and promoting children's rights to a secure, healthy, and happy childhood since it joined the UN system in 1953.

Since 1953, Belarus has been a part of the group. In Minsk, the Republic of Belarus, a UNICEF representative office was established in 1997. Four times, our nation has served on UNICEF's Executive Board, which oversees the agency. Over the years of its work in Belarus, the foundation has earned a reputation as a reliable and responsible partner. Cooperation with UNICEF contributes to the implementation of national plans and programs to improve the situation of children in Belarus, with a focus on the most vulnerable categories, prevention of bad habits, HIV/AIDS prevention among children and youth, promotion and protection of the rights of the child.

The national programme for Belarus for 2021–2025, which has an overall budget of roughly $ 15 million, provides the foundation for the fund's cooperation with Belarus. Beginning on June 1, 2017, Minsk will play host to a special joint event called "Partnership for Children" between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UNICEF representative office. Participants include the diplomatic corps, members of the media, officials of international and public organisations, national partners of the Foundation, students from schools supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and kids from orphanages.
