A celebratory book exhibition “The Unfinished Word” dedicated to the 120th birthday anniversary of the Belarusian writer Kuzma Chorny (1900–1944) is on show in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room from June 2 to July 2.

Kuzma Chorny, (Nikolai Romanovsky) classic of the Belarusian literature, an outstanding realism writer, a master of the monumental epic genre, one of the founders of a socio-psychological novel, a thoughtful and talented word craftsman, “a true expert of human souls”, created images that are still relevant to this day.

The name of the writer is widely known not only in our country but also far beyond its borders. He lived only forty-four years, but in such a short time, he created novels, short novels, short stories, plays that are part of the best legacy of the Belarusian prose and drama. His works, deep in thought, simple, truthful and cordial, teach to love your fellow citizens, native land, respect the commoners and their work, appreciate the mother tongue, rich national culture.

In total, the exhibition has more than 250 documents. Among the pieces presented are the stories “Along the Road”, “Feelings”, “September Nights”, “Big Heart”, “Little Woman”, the short novels “Lyavon Bushmar”, “Lyuba Lukyanskaya”, “A Day Ahead”, novels “Sister”, “The Land”, “Fatherland ”, “The Third Generation”, “Searches for Future”, “A Great Day”, “Milky Way”, a play “Irynka,” collection of satirical feuilleton pieces “A Butcher in White Cuffs”, a compilation of humorous stories "A Wedding in Skipyeva Perabroddze", children’s' books "Nastsechka", "About Uncle Tamash Who Scared Wolves" and others, as well as essays, journalistic articles and the diary of the writer.

Translations of K. Chorny from Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Georgian languages are exhibited in a separate section.

Monographs and numerous articles complement the exposition, revealing the story of the life and career of a talented novelist. I. Naumenko, A. Adamovich, M. Tychina, B. Sachenko, V. Vitka, M. Lynkov and others wrote about him.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.

Admission is by a library card or by the Social and Cultural Center ticket.

Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
