The anniversary book exhibition The Height of Vladimir Vysotsky, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the famous poet, actor and songs performer is held in the National Library of Belarus (exhibition area, 3rd floor) from January 5 to April 20.

More than 300 documents, including books, photo albums, postcards, records, CDs from the National Library funds, as well as from personal collections of Vysotsky's fans are presented at the exposition.

Vladimir Vysotsky, theater and cinema actor, author and performer of songs, became an icon for the inhabitants of a large country. His honest, sincere poetry was highly appreciated. People who fell in love with the poet, decrypted shabby audio recordings, copied them with errors, creating collections of his songs for themselves, for friends, for Vysotsky too. There were many so called "complete works" in the country. Now they are of historical and bibliographic value.

At that time there could be no question about the legal edition...

Vladimir Vysotsky wrote more than 600 songs and poems, and dreamed of ever seeing a legally published book. Such a book appeared only in a year after his death: the publishing house Sovremennik published the first Vysotsky’s collection of poems The Nerve. There were 130 poems in the book, but still a large part of Vysotsky's legacy remained in the country under an unofficial ban. Everyone heard about the book, read reviews of it in Yunost and other magazines. Fans took a copy in the library, read, and then somebody copied it by hand. The exposition presents this legendary edition of 1981 and its two subsequent reprints (1988, 1989).

The Vladimir Vysotsky's poetic legacy is presented to the exhibition visitors by the modern collection I happened to be walking around (2009). Vladimir Vysotsky was always attached to his native city: 1st Meshchanskaya, Bolshoi Karetny, Taganka: these addresses determined the book composition and its main parts. The collection includes works of the poet, as well as fragments of memories and essays about Vysotsky and his work. The book is illustrated with photos from the fund of the V.S. Vysotsky State Cultural Center and Museum.

The memories of Vladimir Vysotsky which vividly represent his multifaceted personality are presented at the exhibition. For example the book Vysotsky by V. Novikov told about a man who was listened literally in every house in the 70-80s. The reader learns new biographical details about the life of Vladimir Vysotsky from this book, as well as his ups and downs, his passions and failures. V. Novikov deeply analyzed the Vysotsky’s poetic creativity and tried to determine his place in the cultural and historical context of the epoch.

The books The Interrupted Flight by M. Vladi, The Secret of Vladimir Vysotsky by V. Zolotukhin, Four Evenings with Vladimir Vysotsky by E. Ryazanov , etc.

The exhibition is intended to the attention of broad reading audience.
