The event dedicated to the completion of the charity action "The Book is the source of wisdom, knowledge and science ..." will took place on January 23rd in the National Library of Belarus.
Within the framework of the nationwide celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing, the National Library of Belarus announced a charitable action The Book is the Source of Wisdom, Knowledge and Science... , which were continuing during the 2017. The library has become a link between those who can and wants to help, and those who need help, by organizing the collecting of books for their further transfer to social institutions and libraries of all regions of the country.
Many institutions and private donators responded to the call for participation. The action was supported by well-known Belarusian publishers and news agencies such as Belarus, Mastackaya litaratura, Pravo i ekonomika, Popurri, Vladimir Grevtsov’s Agency, Four Quarters, Zvyazda as well as the bookselling companies Krasiko-print, Tregross-Info, MobilBook, MET, BookLineGroup, Eureka-M, Akademicheskaya kniga, Belkniga, Helton, Piter-М.
Within the project frameworks 14,500 copies of books were transferred to libraries of different types, mainly to social institutions of the country. The sets of books were given to the Gomel orphanage, the Vitebsk care home, the Republican care home for war and labor veterans, the Municipal care home for war and labor veterans "Svitanok", the Ponemun children's home in Grodno, the Minsk educational and health center "Leader", the Radoshkovichi boarding school for orphans and children without parental care and many others.
Gift sets included books by contemporary authors, guides, encyclopedias, art and popular science literature for children and young people. We hope that each gifted book will find its reader and will serve many people a source of wisdom, knowledge and science. We thank all the participants of the action, donators and assistants, all who expressed kindness and care, invested their time and their warmth in a noble cause. Together we are changing the world for the better!
