From March 2nd to April 6th in Belarusian literature reading room 205 is open the exhibition “Devotion to the mother tongue” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian linguist Pavel Stetsko.
Pavel Stetsko studies word-formation in dialectal and literary languages, word-formative connections between the Slavonic languages, the grammar of the Belarusian literary language, lexicology, dialectology, etymology, and methodology of teaching of the Belarusian language in institutes of higher education.
Pavel Stetsko is the author of more than 400 scientific papers and books on linguistics: “People’s vocabulary” (1970), “Dialect dictionary” (1970), “Belarusian people’s word-formation: affixal nouns” (1977), “Belarusian grammar” , Pt. 1, (1985), “Dictionary of linguistic terms” (1990), “The undergraduate course of linguistics” (1993), “Introduction to linguistics” (2001), “Culture of language” (2002), “Syntax of the modern Belarusian language” (2006) etc.
The researcher is well-known not only in Belarus but also abroad. The scientist participated in the IX International congress of specialists in Slavonic philology and many other international symposiums and conferences. The particular sections of the exhibition are dedicated to editorial, educational and scientific activities of the linguist and his biography.
The exposition includes more than 100 documents.
