On March 2nd in National Library of Belarus took place the grand opening of the art exhibition “The Still Life” dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Belarusian artist Ivan Khrutsky.


Ivan Khrutsky, the greatest master of still-life of the XIX century, reproduced inanimate nature with an insubstantial perfection; objects in his paintings looked alive. The artist had a lot of followers that undoubtedly promoted the development of this genre which is very popular among modern artists.

The offered exhibition presents painting, graphics, photo, ceramics and batik performed by masters of still-life from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Armenia, Great Britain, Ireland and Latvia.

Fyodor Yastreb, the head of the gallery and exhibition department of National Library of Belarus opened the solemn event. On the exhibition opening day spoke: head of the social and cultural center of National Library of Belarus Sergey Sheremetev; artist-ceramist and laureate of the Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus (2009) Valeriy Koltygin; artist and photographer, member of the council of the Photoart Company Ivan Petrovich; painter Grigoriy Nesterov.

The most eminent works by Ivan Khrutsky were shown at the plasma monitor. Within the framework of the event an exposition of albums, books, articles, postcards and reproductions dedicated to the artist’s life and creative activity was presented. Violinists of the ensemble "Virtuosos" showed their musical skills.

The exhibition “The Still Life” is open in the galleries “Rakurs”, “Labyrinth” and “Atrium” from March 2nd to April 15th, 2010.
