Automated workplaces for the blind and visually impaired

The library provides free special listening devices for audio documents as well as tiflotech solutions that transform visual text data into formats usable by the blind and visually impaired users: magnified and audio (speech) format, therefore, users with visual impairments can independently use flat print publications and electronic resourcesі.

When working with flat-print materials, visually impaired people can utilise a computer-connected electronic magnifier called VideoLight to enlarge the publication's pages by 3 to 72 times.

Electronic magnifiers are located in Scientific reading rooms, General reading room, Bibliographical service reading room and Periodicals reading room.

Scientific reading rooms have automated workstations for blind or visually impaired users, which are outfitted with the "Screen Magnifier" programme, the screen access programme NVDA, and headphones. These automated workstations provide access to electronic resources (electronic catalogue, documents with a text layer and audio documents from the electronic library, databases, and Internet resources).

The "screen magnifier" built into Windows 7 allows visually impaired users to use electronic data in a magnified format.

NVDA voiced by text on a computer screen using Russian, Belarusian, and English speech synthesizers.
