The Republican readership session on the Reader as a Cultural Status: Growing Up With KnigaSvet as part of the national information and educational project KnigaSvet took place in the National Library, on 17 October.


The event was provided by the National Institute of Education, the Publishing House Zvyazda, the National Library of Belarus and the editors of the newspaper Nastaunitskaya gazeta, with the support of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

The reader’s session was attended by writers and teachers, cultural workers, school and university students concerned in the promotion of literature and reading as a part of national cultural value.

At the opening ceremony the words of welcome were spoken by the Minister of Information of Belarus, Alexander Karlyukevich, the Deputy Minister of Education of Belarus, Raisa Sidorenko, the head of the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechesis of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, Bishop of Borisov and Marina Gorka Veniamin, the director of the National Institute of Education, Sergei Vazhnik, the director and chief editor of the Publishing House Zvyazda, Pavel Sukhorukov

The event continued with a plenary session, which included reports of the deputy director for scientific work and publishing of the National Library of Belarus, Alexander Susha, on pedagogical potential of Francysk Skaryna’a book heritage; the member of the Union State Public Chamber Presidium, Anatoly Andreev, on the “great digital revolution”, and the chief editor of the Belarusian literary magazine Maladost, Svetlana Votsinova, on the cooperation of editors and teachers.

Also, a presentation of the Internet resource "KnigaSvet" and award ceremony of the contest of book trailers for the works by Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas were held as part of the event.

The five sections included the open discussion on various topics: "New generation and new technologies motivating for reading," "Modern literature, criticism and literary studies: interaction and interference", "The role and possibilities of museums, galleries, theaters in the formation of reading culture of the Belarusian society ","Media education as an innovative space of the formation of a competent reader.”

Elena Tulupova, the head of department of the National Library of Belarus, presented a report on the formation of information culture of the National Library’s users at the section “The role and possibilities of modern libraries in the formation of the reading culture of the Belarusian society.”

The Republican readership session ended with a round table entitled “To the Living Word”.

The quest tour "The road of the Great Victory"

On May 15, on the International Family Day, the National Library of Belarus was visited by members of the Belarusian Association of parents with many children in the Pervomaisky district of Minsk. They took part in the quest tour "The road of the Great Victory", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
