The opening of a photo and documentary exhibition “Belarusian-Italian cultural ties in history and present times” will open in the gallery “Atrium” (3rd floor) on 12 April, at 4 p.m.


The exhibition is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Italian Republic and the Republic of Belarus and will be held in the frame of the Year of Italian Culture in Belarus. The exposition will reflect the rich history and versatility of the Belarusian-Italian cultural relations: photographs, postcards, letters, articles and the most accurate historical facts all about how the transfusion and enrichment of cultures occurred, and how the friendship of the sunny Italy and blue-eyed Belarus developed.

For the first time, the original documents from the official archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA will be available to the public. A separate place will be given to the private archive of the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Petr Kravchenko.

Belarusian-Italian relations in the sphere of culture, science and religion will be represented by various documents from the funds of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Arts: photographs, personal documents of Belarusian opera singers, translations of poems from the Italian language, wandering notes by Belarusian poets etc.

The National Library of Belarus will prepare a book exhibition dedicated to famous historical figures whose destiny was connected with the history of the two countries. The scientific collection Francysk Skaryna, the Belarusian Humanist, Enlightener and First Printer, an exclusive copy of the facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna and other editions will introduce visitors to the work of the first printer Francysk Skaryna. The center of the exposition will be the unique book Carmen de statura, feritate ac venatione bisontis (A Song about the Appearance, Savagery and Hunting of the Bison) by Mikola Gusovsky published in Italy, with 13 etchings by the famous Belarusian artist Y. Yakovenko and authentic text in Latin.

The exposition will run till 16 May, 2017.
The exhibition ending date may be changed.

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
