The presentation of the book by Alexey Babina Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871. The Event that Changed the Course of European History took place in the Library on April 26.
The presented edition sheds light on a largest conflict of the 19th century that changed the course of history and influenced the development of international relations among European countries.
Discussions why the war was possible and got awful scales are still burning.
Participants and guests of the event expressed their opinions on historic events of that time, the presentation was in the format of a roundtable, which contributed to an open dialogue and discussion of arguable questions.
A scientific editor of the publication, the head of the Centre of special historic sciences and anthropology of the Institute of history of the National Academy of Sciences Valentin Golubev shared his impressions about the book and marked the fact that it’s written not by a professional historian, but by an amateur who thoroughly studied this issue – the author employed manifold documents, many of which are little-known to a mass reader.
The book’s author Alexey Babina paid special attention to historic personalities involved in those events. “The history is created by people. We, a future generation, must remember it, study, analyze and learn lessons from it in order not to repeat mistakes of the past”, – summerized Alexey.
The chief editor of the publishing house “Technology” Dmitry Sanko noted book’s wonderful decoration – a hard cover, many illustrations, maps, scholarly apparatus, etc. Acquaintance with this book lets not just study history, but also enjoy reading of an edition of high quality. Several books were given by Dmitry to the National Library of Belarus.
The deputy director for research and publishing activities of the National Library of Belarus Alexander Susha thanked for the books and expressed confidence that they will be in demand among readers.
