The solemn opening of the Belarusian Information and Cultural Centre at the National Library of Pakistan was held in Islamabad (the Islamic Republic of Pakistan) on 11 November.
The event was part of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Andrej Kabiakoǔ, to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Belarusian Information and Cultural Centre is created with the object of a mutually beneficial cooperation between Belarusian and Pakistan in the sphere of culture, humanities, economy, science and technology, education, tourism and information. It is meant for business meetings and negotiations, seminars on the issues of economic, scientific and technical, cultural, social and political development of both Belarus and Pakistan.
During the solemn ceremony the Director of the National Library of Belarus, Raman Matulski, presented the book exhibition “Belarus Today”.
The exposition includes about 200 encyclopedic, scientific, popular scientific, informational publications and fiction. Books, photo albums, brochures, postcards and booklets are grouped under the following headings: "The Republic of Belarus in general, and the regions of Belarus", "Nature", "Science and Education", "Economics and Business", "Historical and Cultural Heritage", "Art", "Literature", "Sport and Tourism". The publications represent the state system of our country, the level of development of science, education, youth policy, and also dynamic and diverse cultural and literary life of Belarus. The rich photographic material collected in photo albums, brightly and colorfully illustrates the successful development of our country in various spheres of life and the unique look of natural, cultural and historical sites of Belarus.
Within the framework of the opening ceremony, the book collection gathered by the National Library of Belarus and the libraries of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus were open.
The exposition contains about 800 titles and acquaints visitors with publications on economy, culture, science, history and industry of the country; documents containing information on scientific and technical international cooperation of Belarusian enterprises and organizations; periodicals and series on the leading branches of science and the national economy of Belarus; colorful art albums and catalogs; encyclopedias and reference books; reference and information booklets, multimedia documents.
The exposition is supplemented with traditional Belarusian ware and souvenirs, which give the atmosphere of identity and bring the flavor of Belarus.
To ensure the access to timely and socially important information about Belarus, the National Library has prepared the electronic information resource "The Virtual Reading Room for the Official Representatives of the Republic of Belarus and Organizations Abroad". It represents the most authoritative databases and digital collections on Belarusian studies belonging to different libraries, archives, government agencies, institutions of education and science of our country. They are grouped into 7 sections, in accordance with the main areas of political, economic and cultural life: "General Information about the Republic of Belarus", "State and Law", "Economy and Business", "Science and Innovation", "Culture and Art", "Sport and Tourism ", " Library Resources". Also it provides for the structuring of each section on the basis of its specificity and scientific approaches to the organization of information.
Thanks to the exhibition displays and the information resources visitors can familiarize themselves with economic opportunities, export and investment potential of our country and its cultural and spiritual heritage, to get information about culture, arts, education and economy of contemporary Belarus.
The Belarusian Information and Cultural Centre is designed for employees of various agencies and organizations of culture, science and education in Pakistan.
