A presentation of the New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the modern Belarusian language will be held at the National Library, on 15 November.

The event is held with the blessing of Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, and provided by the Editorial Board of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the National Library of Belarus.

The year 2017 has marked two significant events in our country’s life – the 500th anniversary of the first publication of Francysk Skaryna’s Bible and the publication of the New Testament in the modern Belarusian language, carried out by the Belarusian Orthodox Church. Until today, none of the previous translations cannot be considered as official, because they all are authors’ translations and do not always conform to the norms of the modern Belarusian language and church terminology.

The New Testament of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is a result of the synodic work of members of the Biblical Commission of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, in collaboration with the Bible Society of the Republic of Belarus. The translation is made from Classical Greek, which is usually applied in the Orthodox Church. In the process the Biblical Commission analyzed the previous attempts to translate the Holy Writ into the Belarusian language, taking them into account as well. They also used a variety of Bible translations into the Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, English and other languages.

The event was attended by representatives of the Belarusian Exarchate; heads of the Ministries of Culture, Education and Information of Belarus; other officials; scholars of the National Academy of Sciences; teachers and students of theological schools.

As part of the event, an exhibition of the books of the Bible, translated into the Belarusian language, will run in the library.

The event starts at 3 p.m., (atrium, 3rd floor)
