On April 22, 2009, in the gallery “Panorama” of National Library of Belarus was opened held an art exhibition “Following Tarass Shevchenko’s Ways”.


The event organized by National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus is timed to the 195th anniversary of the outstanding Ukrainian poet and artist Tarass Shevchenko.

At the art exhibition are displayed works by Ukrainian artists from Lvov Palace of Arts who lead a permanent creative expedition. The artists made 9 thousand kilometers journey across Ukraine, visited Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Russia (Moscow and St.-Petersburg), and arrived in Belarus in June 2008. During their journey the artists created over 100 works. Works by some artists- participants of the expedition are displayed at the exhibition in National Library of Belarus. There are presented paintings, photos as well as philately dedicated to Tarass Shevchenko.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus I.D. Likhoviy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Belarus A.V. Smirnov, and representatives of the Embassy of Lithuania to the Republic of Belarus participated in the event. E.E. Dolgopolova, the Deputy Director of National Library of Belarus for information and library service welcomed the guests.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus I.D. Likhoviy, Doctor of Phylology, Professor A.I. Maldis, and head of exhibition department of National Library of Belarus F.A. Yastreb told about Tarass Shevchenko’s life and creative work.

The guests enjoyed a performance of a bandura players’ duet.
