On October 4 at the National Library of Belarus took place a meeting with American poet, founder of the international Poetry Slam movement Marc Smith.
In 1986 poet Marc Kelly Smith started The Original Uptown Poetry Slam at Chicago’s Green Mill club. Smith had decided to put an end to tedious literary readings when a poet mumbled monotonous lyrics ignoring the audience. Since then performance poetry has spread all over the world and has settled in more than 500 cities.
By now Marc Smith has held more than 2 000 performances at clubs, music halls, libraries and universities. He performed at the most fashionable halls in the USA and at European festivals, read his poems on CNN and voiced audio books about modern poetry, and that’s only the beginning.
The poet keeps on entertaining and inspiring each audience apt to discover the world of belle-lettres.
At the National Library of Belarus Marc Smith held a poetry slam performance whose participants became the Library’s guests and employees. The poet answered willingly the audience’s questions and shared his creative plans and his impression of Belarus. All guests of the event had a great time communicating with the master of poetic performance.
