The Photographers of Belarus. 1850–1918, a book by Alexander Velichko, was presented at the National Library of Belarus on March 14.

There is a touch of a wizard about the profession of a photographer, as only photographers can master the time. They can stop the moment with a single finger tap, and a century later, a whole era will come to life in their pictures. Who stood at the origins of the Belarusian photo art, who and when opened the first photo studio and how do the portraits of the early 20th century look like?

An original edition of the collector and historian Alexander Velichko is about this and more. The volume, wonderfully illustrated book is unique in its content providing a full-scale overview of photographers and photographic establishments of the early 20th century in cities and towns that now form part of modern Belarus. In total, it contains about 800 biographical references accompanied by letterheads and archival documents. The book will certainly be of interest to collectors, local historians, museum workers, as well as to a wide range of readers, art and history lovers.

The event was attended by Alexander Velichko, the author of the book, researcher in faleristics; the Professor of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, PhD Anatoly Sharkov; Sergey Plytkevich, photographer, director of Riftour publishing house  and the director of Polifakt Publishing House, Anatoly Ruksha.
