On November 23, the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference on Vitebsk Region was held in Vitebsk as part of the national celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing.
The organizers of the event, hosted by Vitebsk Regional Library, were the V.I. Lenin Vitebsk Regional Library, the P.M. Masherov Vitebsk State University, and Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore.
The attendees presented a number of reports on the life and work of Francysk Skaryna, the history of the book and study of local lore, the history and culture of Podvinye and others. Questions of librarianship and bibliography, museum and ecclesiastical local lore were discussed as well.
Specialists considered a number of problematic issues related to archival studies and archeography, the preparation and publication of local lore literature.
Alexander Susha, the deputy director for research and publishing of the National Library of Belarus, made a presentation on Francysk Skaryna and the origins of Belarusian book-printing.
