On December 26, 2023, the National Library of Belarus hosted a solemn ceremony of donating to the "diamond of knowledge" a collection of 100 books provided by the National Library under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Türkiye and the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in the Republic of Belarus.
The number of books is symbolic: in 2023, Türkiye celebrates the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye. The collection includes works representing cultural and artistic values, regional traditions, history, nature and ancient regions of Türkiye. In addition, the collection contains works of Turkish literature, studies on the Turkish language, as well as dictionaries.
The books will be of interest to students of the Turkish language, as well as to anyone interested in the culture, history and sights of Türkiye.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Belarus Mustafa Özcan and Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadzim Hihin, as well as employees of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Türkiye in the Republic of Belarus, the library.
In his speech, Mr. Özcan spoke about the project "Libraries of Books of the World", implemented by the National Library under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Türkiye. Within the framework of the project, the Turkish Presidential Library presents sections with books from 110 countries of the world, including literature donated by the National Library of Belarus within the framework of the Belarus Today project.
Vadzim Hihin noted the importance of this event for both countries, since cultural dialogue is what allows us to get to know each other better and strengthen our cooperation.
As part of the event, an exhibition was organized to view valuable Oriental (Turkish) manuscripts of the XVI–XIX centuries from the fund of the National Library of Belarus. The manuscripts came from the collection of the prominent military commander and statesman Count Ivan Fedorovich Paskevich (1782–1856).
The material was provided by the Public Relations Department.
