An the anniversary exhibition "The Earthly Light Poetry", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian poet, playwright, publicist, critic, translator Anatol Viarcinski is on show in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) from November 17, 2021 to January 4, 2022.
Anatol Viarcinski's name has long and rightfully occupied a firm place among the leading Belarusian poets. High moral criteria, deep analytical skills, involvement into painful problems of national history and complicated issues of our time ensure that Viarcinski's poetry is always in the public eye. Viarcinski's works are characterised by high civic morale, philosophical and poignant journalism. The poet makes sense of the eternal problems of human existence, the moral values of life, glorifies the spiritual greatness of humankind, and denounces indifference and complacency.
The exhibition features numerous poetry collections by Viarcinski from different years of writing: "A Song about Bread", "Thre Silences", "Human's Mark", "Hour of First Stars", "It's Windy", "Earthly Light", etc. Viarcinski dedicated his heartfelt, emotional lines to his mother. The poems "Zaazierjie" and "Dazhynki" are the poet's filial hymn. His articles, reviews, essays, dialogues and interviews are collected in the books "High Heavens of Perfection" and "New York Siren", which are also on display. The writer was also productive in the dramatic genre. The fairy-tale plays for children "Thank You, Thank You Very Much!" and "Say Your Name, Soldier" were staged in Belarusian theatres to great acclaim.
Viarcinski is credited with numerous translations of poetry from the Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Bulgarian, Polish and Hungarian languages. His translations have been used to stage productions of Mihail Sebastian's "The Star With no Name Eye", Lope de Vega's "El amor enamorado" and other plays.
Publications on the poet's life and work in encyclopaedias, books and literary critiques complement the exhibition.
