From 1 November to 31 December, an exhibition “Serve the law and justice” devoted to the Day of a Lawyer runs in the Legal Information Reading Room (room 207b).

The President of the Republic of Belarus released Decree №157 “About state holidays, festive days and honorable dates in Belarus” on 28 March, 1998. According to this Decree the first Sunday of December is annually celebrated in Belarus as a professional holiday – the Day of a Lawyer.

The Day of a Lawyer is a great and significant holiday as it unites lawyers presenting different fields of activity who serve to protect rights and freedom of citizens of our state.

The establishment of lawful justice is the main goal in this profession. There are little professions which are so responsible, respected, honourable and, simultaneously, as much complex as a lawyer.

The work of lawyers effects irreproachable performance, and consequently on existence and legal functioning of a state. Advice and decisions of lawyers influence on destiny of people, their property and non-property relations, stability of economy, protection of interests of an author and inventor, inflow of investments, and even order in streets and safety of citizens. Their mistakes (illegal arrest, wrong court decision, inactivity in the situation where are the necessity of intervention, simply unreasonable behaviour) can adversely affect a condition of law and order, as well as well-being of members of a society.

A juridical profession includes many specializations: lawyer, public prosecutor, judge, inspector, expert on a staff, legal counsel, teacher, and scientist. Such specializations can be a lot, but all of them must have one necessary condition – they must serve to Law, Truth and Justice.

The exposition contains more than 40 documents: books, brochures, periodicals.

The exhibition includes the following sections:

Legislative acts regulating activity of lawyers in Belarus.
System of getting juridical education in Belarus.
Professional ethics.

The exhibition is intending for teachers and students of higher educational institutions, judges, lawyers, workers of law enforcement bodies and other representatives of this profession.
