From 16 June to 30 September, a book-documentary exhibition “Publishing projects of the National Library of Belarus 2006–2016” timed to the 10th anniversary of the new library building runs in the circular hall of the 3rd floor.
The exposition is centered around the library’s projects and initiatives aimed at preserving the book heritage of Belarus: the facsimile editions Слуцкае Евангелле (The Sluck Gospel) (2009), В. Ластоўскі. Гісторыя беларускай (крыўскай) кнігі (V. Lastoǔski, The History of the Belarusian Book) (2012), Жыціе блажэннай Евфрасініі… (The Life of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk) (2012), Буквар мовы славянскай (The Slavic Language Primer) (2012), Калядная писанка. 1913 год (The Painted Easter Egg. 1913) (2012), Баркалабаўскі летапіс (The Barkalabaǔ Chronicle) (2013), Симеон Полоцкий. Жезл Правления (Simeon of Polotsk. Rod of Government) (2013), Тураўскае Евангелле (The Turaǔ Gospel) (2014), Кніжная спадчына Францыска Скарыны (The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna) (2014).
The lifetime editions of Belarusian literary classics from the library collections were digitized and recreated, including Dudka Białaruskaja Macieja Buraczka. – Krakow, 1891 by Francišak Bahusevič, (2009), Вянок. – Вільня, 1913 by Maksim Bahdanovič, (2011), Сымон Музыка. – Менск, 1925 by Janka Kupala (2012) and Шляхам жыцця. Пецярбург, 1913 by Jakub Kolas (2012).
The album Книжное наследие Беларуси (The Book Heritage of Belarus) (2014) features hundreds of book artifacts from the library collections including original manuscripts, valuable earl printed and rare books, and also cartographic editions.
Along with the facsimile editions the exhibition presents informational, reference, scientific, production and practical periodicals and serials prepared by employees of the National Library of Belarus. The subjects of their research is broad and multifaceted, from the Belarusian book heritage to modern library and information technology.
An important outcome of the library’s research activities is the issue of electronic resources aimed at the preservation and promotion of the national historical and cultural heritage, promotion of the Belarusian book on the Internet, increase of public interest in the best examples of domestic literature, significant historical events, as well as outstanding people of our country.
The library also focuses on the promotion of its collections by means of publication of sets of postcards with the re-creation of illustrations of manuscripts, incunabula and rare books, as well as themed greeting and landscape postcards of the early twentieth century.
The publishing projects of the National Library of Belarus has repeatedly been awarded prizes at national and international competitions "The Art of Book".
The exhibition is designed for bibliographers, historians and a wide range of people who are not indifferent to books.
