On 25 October, on the memorial evening of the famous Belarusian film director and script writer Viktor Turov, the Library presented the exhibition "Life as a confession" dedicated to his 80th anniversary.


Viktor Turov created more than 20 films dedicated to military issues and the fate of the Belarusian people, and also filmed works of Belarusian and Russian classics. In a poll of critics, his film I Come From Childhood is named the best in the history of Belarusian cinema, and his Through the Graveyard was included by UNESCO in a hundred of the most significant films of the world.

Guests of the event, the famous Russian and Belarusian actors, filmmakers, writers, artists, journalists, relatives and friends of the director, were able to get acquainted with the rich illustrative and factual materials related to the life and work of Victor Turov.

Now the exhibition "Life as a confession" is located inside the National Library (in the circular hall on the 3rd floor). The exhibition includes books, magazines, full color copies of newspaper articles, shooting scripts, archival materials.

The book of the journalist and film critic Leonid Pavlyuchik From Confession to the Epic, which became the first biographical publication dedicated to Victor Turov, is among the most notable exhibits. The director Elena Turova, his daughter, wrote the book about her famous father Victor Turov: the Master of Belarusian Style of the series “100 outstanding figures of Belarusian culture”.

The Doctor of Arts and Professor Eufrosinia Bondareva had been the main critic and biographer of Victor Turov over the years. The exhibition presents not only her numerous analytical articles in the Belarusian magazines Polymya and Mastatstva, but also her book about the life and work of the director From the Heart to the Heart. The scientific publication of Eufrosinia Bondareva about films based on the works of classics of Belarusian literature is als on display.

The Belarusian filmmaker had never boasted of his friendship with the popularly favorite actor, poet and bard Vladimir Vysotsky. On it, he said only once, in a series of interviews with the artist Boris Krepak. Exclusive material printed in the newspaper Kultura for 1996 is also presented at the exhibition.

The exhibition also features unique archival materials kindly provided by the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus, including The Personal File of Viktor Turov, calendar-staging plans for his famous films Through the Graveyard and I Come From Childhood, as well as production report of the People of the Marsh shooting crew.

The exhibition runs till 25 November, 2016.
