A subject book exhibition “Economic development of Belarus” dedicated to the Year of Quality runs from October 14 to November 16 at the National Library of Belarus (second floor, circular hall).
On December 31, 2009, the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus «On proclamation 2010 the Year of Quality» «for the further improvement of quality of life of Belarusian people, providing for economical upturn and its competitiveness, modernization of industry on the basis of the newest technologies, dynamic development of science and education, fundamental improvement of conditions of work and life and people’s well-being» was adopted. On May 24, 2010, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus adapted the republican plan of events for observance of the Year of Quality.
The National Library of Belarus offers a subject book exposition presenting around 200 editions about economic development of Belarus, books on innovative economic development and international economic cooperation, guidebooks for foreign investors, manuals and scientific publications, trade and service catalogs.
The economic potential of Belarus is mostly defined by industry. Production of Belarusian enterprises is working up foreign markets both in the CIS and all over the world. The industry of Belarus includes more than 100 branches. More than 20 thousand industrial enterprises and manufactures function in the Republic of Belarus about 10 percent of which produce over 60 % of industrial output of the country.
Branch structure of Belarusian industry is represented by the leading enterprises of the country. The given exposition covers such branches as mechanical engineering and metal working, fuel industry, chemical and petrochemical, food, light and timber industry, and building materials industry.
During the last decade, a steady economic growth in the country is observed. The basic driving forces of economic growth are strengthening of industrial potential, activation of investment activity, extension of foreign trade, increase in labor productivity, increase in power efficiency and use of capacities. The Belarusian economy is the open economy and the most part of production is exported.
The exhibition is designed for all who is interested in the issues of social and economic development of Belarus.
