The presentation of the book “The Radzivills. Album of Portraits of the XVIII–XIX Centuries” takes place at the gallery Rakurs on November 19 at 5 p.m.
The event organizers are the publishing house “P. Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia” and the National Library of Belarus.
In an effort to revive artistic and moral traditions and to enrich the national and cultural heritage of Belarus, the publishing house “P. Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia” published the book “The Radzivills. Album of Portraits of the XVIII–XIX Centuries” which duplicates the unique monument of Belarusian culture – the Radzivills’ album of the XVIII century.
The exclusive edition includes 169 pages of black-and-white facsimile portrait engravings and drawings with historical commentaries.
Source materials for the edition were presented by the foreign partners: the Radzivills noble family, the Royal Castle of Warsaw, national museums in Krakow and the National Art Museum of Lithuania. The original album written in Latin is kept in the National Historical Archive of Belarus. This is a unique edition, the only copy of which (out of nine actually existing) is kept in Belarus.
Publication of the album was technically difficult as it needed very special expensive paper. As a result, special watercolor paper has been found – warm to the touch and with watermarks it is very similar to paper made in the XVIII century. Thus the portrait engravings have been printed on this paper.
The book presentation will gather representatives of ministries and departments, diplomatic corps, libraries, museums and archives of the Republic of Belarus.
