On 24 November, the Vitebsk Regional Library hosted the II International science and practical conference “Viciebski kraj” devoted to the 385th anniversary of Spiridon Sobol’s Primer.


The conference providers are Vitebsk Regional Library named after V.I. Lenin, the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov (the chair of history of Belarus), and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History.

The plenary session of the conference included the reports as follow:

”Two registers of Vitebsk privileges in the Library of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania” (Alexander Dovnar, PhD, head of the archaeology department of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus),

”The question of the date of the foundation of Vitebsk in historiography (the late XVIII – early ХХІ centuries)" (Anatoly Dulov, PhD, Assoc. Prof., head of the chair of history of Belarus of the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov),

”The restoration of destroyed religious objects in Vitebsk: history and prospects” (Denis Yurchak, PhD, principal officer of the main department of ideological work, culture and youth affairs of Vitebsk regional executive committee),

"The Kucein Lavra, a spiritual and educative center in the XVII century” (Galina Yurkevich, the librarian of the library of the Holy Theophany Monastery in Kucein).

The employees of the National Library of Belarus took part in breakout sessions of the conference with the reports as follow:

”Railway construction in the military town Borovka of Lepel district: the unknown pages of history” (Andrey Baranovsky, the chief bibliographer of the Bibliography research department of the National Library of Belarus),

”Design work as a means to preserve and promote the book heritage“ (Ekaterina Lapotko, the principal methodologist of the sector of scientific and design work of the Book science department of the National Library of Belarus),

”The series of lessons “On a Visit to Books”: the innovation and results” (Tatiana Sapiego, the head of the sector of scientific and design work of the Book science department of the National Library of Belarus).

The Belarusian Notary Chamber and the National Library of Belarus: keeping history together

On June 5, in the Hall of Educational Technologies of the NLB, within the framework of the previously signed agreement on cooperation in the field of information activities between the Belarusian Notary Chamber and the National Library of Belarus, a solemn transfer to the library's collections of a unique publication dedicated to the stages of the formation of the institute of notary in the Belarusian lands took place.
