The presentation of the book Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871. The Event that Changed the Course of European History in the 20th Century takes place in the Library on April 26.
The Franco-Prussian War is a key event in European history of the second half of the 20th century. Its results became a prologue of World War 1 and a more horrible and large-scale World War 2. That’s why, the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871 determined the course of European history.
However, a circle of editions in the world historiography dedicated to this topic is rather limited. The book Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871. The Event that Changed the Course of European History in the 20th Century reveals historical details of the war conflict between France and Prussia. The edition presents information about Europe’s development since Vienna Congress (1814–1815), unification of Italy and Germany into single centralized states, analyzes consequences of the Franco-Prussian War for the European continent, characterizes main figures of that epoch (Napoleon III, Thiers, Gambetta, Favre, William I, Bismarck, etc.).
The author, who is a candidate of economic sciences, Alexey Babina used manifold little-known sources and materials while writing. The edition is of particular interest to specialists in history, international relations, politology, and also to a high readership.
