Specialists of the National Library of Belarus remotely took part in the work of the II All-Russian Congress of Named Libraries, held at the Kirov Regional Scientific Library named after A.I. Herzen.

On December 14-16, the II All-Russian Congress of Named Libraries "Russia is famous for Names" was held in Kirov. The event was held under the auspices of the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Kirov Region, the Russian Library Association, and the Russian Book Club.

Within the framework of the event, an exchange of experience on patriotic education of the population took place on the example of the life and work of outstanding personalities, including art and the library industry.

In remote format (video recording) Lucia Tupchiyenko-Kadyrova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, chief bibliographer of the Information and Analytical Department of the National Library of Belarus, spoke at the congress. Her report "Correspondence of composer Julius Meitus with public organizations and groups named after the Young Guard and Richard Sorge" presented, including for the first time, archival documents: letters from school and student organizations of the USSR, a work crew from the former German Democratic Republic, memoirs, etc.

The names of the members of the Komsomol youth organization "Young Guard" and the legendary scout Richard Sorge are associated with the Great Patriotic War. Their feat inspired composer Julius Meitus to write operas – "The Young Guard" (1947) and "Richard Sorge" (1976). The musical editions stored in the fund of the National Library of Belarus – opera claviers and collections of individual opera arias – were also presented in the report.

The participation in the congress with the report "Youth led us ...": two directors, two destinies. From the history of the National Library of Belarus" was also taken by Irina Kuketa, chief librarian of the Research Department of Library Science, and Andrei Baranovsky, chief bibliographer of the Research Department of Bibliography.

They introduced their Russian colleagues to the ongoing work on the study of the history of the formation and development of the State Library of the BSSR named after V. I. Lenin through the prism of human destinies, and also shared the results of extensive research work, which made it possible to complement the historical picture of the development of the institution during the 1930s-1950s. The report focuses on the activities of Alexander Savelyevich Kurov and Roman Makeevich Kozunov, the directors of the country's main book treasury of the pre–war period, whose difficult fate turned out to have a lot in common.
