On 26 April, a cultural action “Personality. Book. Time” was held at the National Library of Belarus.
It was dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day which by the initiative of UNESCO has been celebrated on 23 April since 1996.
This year World Book and Copyright Day is devoted to books and translation as the first step on the way in joining of peoples, enriching of national cultures and languages. In many countries the celebration of this day increases interest to reading, development of publishing, protecting of intellectual property by copyright legal regulations.
In Belarus this action was carried out by the Belarusian Council of Libraries for Information Interaction, the National Center of Intellectual Property and the National Library of Belarus.
The participants of the event were preventatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, UNESCO, the National Center of Intellectual Property and the National Centre of Legislation and Legal Research, as well as specialists from libraries and other cultural and educational institutions of our country.
The importance of this action for popularization of reading and propaganda of a book, achievements in national culture and literature was emphasized in the speeches of Director of the National Library of Belarus R. Motulsky, deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Education, Culture, Science and the scientific and technological progress S. Sukhov, chairman of the National Commission of Belarus on the matters of UNESCO V. Schastny, General Director of the National Center of Intellectual Property of L. Voronetsky.
Within the framework of the event the Central Scientific Library named after Y. Kolas of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was awarded with a diploma as the best library 2011 in the field of copyright protection by the National Center of Intellectual Property.
The guests were famous Belarusian composer O. Molchanin and the national ensemble “Pesnyary”. There were performed Molchanin’s musical compositions. “Pesnyary” devoted its participation in this action to outstanding classic of national literature, poet, publitist, translator Yanka Kupala whose 120th anniversary is celebrated in 2012.
