From January 10, 2008, to February 29, 2008, in the National Library of Belarus (circular passage, third floor) is open a book exhibition “The Greatest Books of the World”: the most important works of the world literature (scientific literature and fiction).
Time and again numerous compilers and publishers have been developing lists of such books: “Literary monuments”, “Biography of eminent peoples”, “Library of the world literature” etc.
Customs and knowledge change with time, and as a result changes a list of books which an intellectual appreciates and chooses. From a great many of books a human has to select the most necessary and talented ones.

Y.A. Abramov and V.N. Demin, the authors of a publication “The 100 Great Books” compiled their own list closed to a canonical one.On the basis of this list was organized the exhibition “The Greatest Books of the World”.
The exposition totals about 400 publications which are displayed in the following sections:
- sacred books;
- science and philosophy;
- foreign classical literature;
- Russian classical literature.
