An anniversary book exhibition "The dramatist of a complex comedy thought” timed to the 90th birthday of Andrei Makayonok runs from November 2 to November 30 at the reading room 205.
Creative activity of people’s writer of Belarus, playwright, outstanding cultural and public figure, winner of Y. Kupala Literary Award of (1962), and Y. Kolas State Prize of Belarus (1974) A. Makayonok is the original phenomenon of Belarusian literature, testifying the writer’s deep interest in the people’s life. His comedies and tragedies are remarkable for a profound display of the real life, development of urgent issues of society, urgency and thematic variety. The bright conflict satirical comedy “Excuse Me Please” (1954) created by A. Makayonok in the age of “the conflict-free theory” had become a creative feat of the playwright.
The writer made an important contribution to the treasury of the Belarusian Theater. He is also a screenwriter and author of scenarios for several movies.
The exhibition presents more than 140 documents: books and translations by A. Makayonok, screenplays and theatrical plays.
A particular section of the exhibition acquaints with the books by A. Makayonok translated into different languages.
The subject section “The bright and original person” presents publications in encyclopedias and books by critics J. Usikov, Y. Sokhar, I Vishnevskaya and other about the writer’s life and career.
