The exhibition "The creative credo” timed to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian linguist, PhD and professor Gennady Tsykhun runs in the Belarusian literature reading room (205), from 5 October to 7 November.


The exhibition, consisting of two sections, presents the researcher’s scientific papers and publications about his life scientific career.

The interests of the talented scientist are characterized by diversity and breadth: the study of the Balkan culture, areal linguistics, typological studies, etymology, the theory of literary language, the history of Slavic studies, comparative studies, the place of the Belarusian language among other Slavic languages, linguistic bibliography.

A special place in the exposition belongs to monographs on the basis of the master’s and doctoral theses on the Balkan-Slavic problems: Syntax of Pronominal Clitic in South Slavic Languages (Balkan-Slavic Model) (1968) and Typological Problems of the Balkan-Slavic Language Area (1981).

Visitors will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the fundamental work of the talented scientist in the field of Belarusian linguistics, The Etymological Dictionary of Belarusian Language, 13 volumes of which were published between 1978 and 2010. As an author and editor, Gennady Tsykhun participated in the preparation of the nine volumes (1, 2, 7–13), writing personally and co-creating not less than 9 000 entries, many of which have already entered the golden fund of Slavic etymology.

The exhibition also presents a unique publication – the Turov Dictionary in 5 volumes (1982–1987), which was prepared in collaboration and gained popularity not only among the specialists of the country, but also outside Belarus.
