Book terms: the incomprehensible becoming easy

For pupils of 6–11 grades.

Many children and adults heard such words, as initial, parchment, incunabulum, but not everyone knows the meaning. Very often terms old book, folio, manuscripts are used as synonyms, but it’s a mistake. Museum lessons are an express course and help understand a difficult book terminology. At the end of the lesson children will be able to name a synonym of manuscript and antonym of folio, will know, who worked in scriptoria and what materials of the first Belarusian hand-written books are. They will answer questions, why scientists refer Francysk Skaryna’s books to palaeotypes, what information the first printer wrote on the front page an in the colophon, whether it’s right to call Skaryna Frantisek, why the first printer’s books have a common name Biblia Ruska, etc.
