On September 15, the National Library of Belarus hosted festive events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the country's primary library.

The celebration day was jam-packed with events: the 9th International Congress "Library as a cultural phenomenon", an exhibition of publishing products, electronic information resources and services, the 26th General Meeting of the non-profit partnership "Library Assembly of Eurasia", the solemn ceremony of awarding employees by ministries and departments, the presentation of awards of the 30th Republican contest "Library is a core of the National culture", the ceremony of cancellation of the state postage stamp of the Republic of Belarus "100 years of the National Library of Belarus". The event has been finalized by the celebratory evening "Together in the new century!".

The jubilee of Belarus' National Library is a matter of great national importance. This is amply demonstrated by the President's keen interest and heartfelt congratulations on the National Library of Belarus' foundation on its 100th anniversary. Igor Lutsky, the deputy head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Belarus, read out a congratulations address on behalf of President Aleksandr Lukashenko. Anatoly Markevich, the country's minister of culture, read out a congratulations speech on behalf of Roman Golovchenko, the prime minister of the Republic of Belarus.

High state awards were given to the library personnel in a solemn setting in recognition of their many years of productive work, high professionalism, and important individual contributions to the advancement of librarianship.

Tatiana Minchena, a senior librarian of the Retrospective acquisition and reserve stock section of the Acquisition department, received a certificate of gratitude from the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus. Elena Sivakova, a senior librarian in the National documents exchange section of the Acquisition department, and Natalya Zamaeva, the head of the Research and organizational support of library activity section of the Library science department, both received certificates of gratitude from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus.

The head of the National documents and CIS countries' documents current acquisition section of the Acquisition department, Inna Goncharenko, the head of the Library and information technologies department of the Information centre, Zhanna Ryseva, and the head of the Information centre, Alla Sheremetyeva, each received the badge of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus "For contributing into development of the Belarussian culture."

The string quartet of the State Chamber Orchestra, a deserving unit of the Mikhail Finberg's National Academic Concert Orchestra of Belarus, performed at a celebratory concert for visitors and National Library staff at the conclusion of the anniversary day.
