We bring to your attention a new section of the virtual project On the Wave of Time, Throughout Life, dedicated to another member of the Molodnyak Literary Association.
January 3 marked the 115th anniversary of the birth of the poet and translator Vladimir Khodyko (1905-1940). Together with the partners of the project On the Wave of Time, Throughout Life, the National Library of Belarus prepared a new section for the writer's anniversary.
The poet revealed himself as a soulful lyricist, able to convey the subtle shifts of people's thoughts and feelings. For all its peculiarities, V. Khodyko’s poetry absorbed many of the contradictory features of the Maladniak, but he was one of the first in Belarusian poetry who broke free of the "burapenasci" in the second half of the 1920s.
During the life of the author, only three collections of poetry were published - Strawberries (1926), Selected Poems (1932), Joyful Weekday (1935) - the full texts of which can be found in the framework of the virtual project. In the most recent, most complete publication of the poet’s works On Gusty Days (1986), arranged by A. Vorobei, includes the works of V. Khodyko from the collections and periodicals of 1926-1936. The writer also worked as a translator, translated the works of M. Gorky, M. Sholokhov, A. Chekhov and other authors, translations are also presented in the project.
A separate selection of documents of the new virtual section is devoted to literary studies, the author’s work was thoroughly considered in the books of R. Berezkin, N. Streltsov, M. Mishchanchuk. There are interesting recollections of the talented poet's pen friends - A. Zaritsky, M. Khvedarovich, M. Sednev, S. Shushkevich. Some of the articles of modern authors are digitized and available to the reader.
In 1937, the poet was sentenced to 10 years in prison, ended up in a quarry in the Novosibirsk region, where he died. According to the memoirs of writers - exiled friends, S. Shushkevich and M. Sednev, V. Khodyko continued to write during the restraint, he had been writing poetry on smoking papers, and then folded it and sewed it into the collar of the coat.
The Photo Gallery subsection contains photographs and images of documents from the collections of the National Library of Belarus, the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature and the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art. For the first time, some documents were posted that have not yet been published.
The virtual section is available in Russian and Belarusian. The section presentation took place on January 16 in the library during the Maladnyak Literary Association Day.
