Ms Zahryshava was born on June 27, 1941 in the town of Marjina Horka, Pukhavichy district, Minsk region. Like many children of the war, she lost her parents early: her father died in 1944, and her mother in 1949. Since the age of eight, the girl was brought up in the Pukhavichy orphanage. She finished secondary school and entered the M. Gorky Minsk Pedagogical Institute in 1959.

While still in her last year, she was admitted to the temporary position of librarian at the State Library of the BSSR named after V.I. Lenin. Having received a diploma in library science, she was transferred to the permanent position of Librarian of the Processing and Catalogues Department in August 1963.

Three years later, the young woman moved to the Legal Deposit Sector of the Acquisition Department, to which she devoted the next 30 years, having completed her career as Head of the Sector.

Ms Zahryshava was engaged in the selection of non-core publications for the library fcollections, supervised the receipt of legal deposit from the union republics, and performed primary processing of incoming publications.

As an excellent professional in her field, she was well aware of the publishing activity of the country and the structure of book distribution, professionally mastered the issues of accounting for the collections replenishment, made a number of constructive proposals for improving the technological processes of work in the department.

Ms Zahryshava was also engaged in methodological work, assisted libraries of the Republic in acquiring collections, was a compiler of methodological recommendations, an author of articles in collections of scientific works.

In addition to her professional obligations, she enthusiastically took part in the public life of the library: she was repeatedly elected to the Komsomol committee, was a member of the revision commission of the trade union committee and the committee of the Red Cross society, and was a member of the sanitary squad.

Distinguished by great diligence, thoroughness and initiative, she enjoyed well-deserved authority and respect among her colleagues.

Ms Zahryshava's work was distinguished with two Diplomas of the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR, a number of Letters of Appreciation from the administration of the library, her name was entered on the Board of Honour several times.

In 1996, she retired, and after 6 years she returned and worked for another year as a librarian in the Service Department, thus devoting 35 years of her professional life to the National Library of Belarus.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
